Subject: Windows IE 7 Error message
posted Wednesday, April 9th 2008 @ 6:45 AM

How can I resolve the following issue I am experiencing while using IE 7. The problem is as follows; while I am using IE7 to surf the net IE 7 locks up at times and requires I click "CTR/ALT/DEL to close the window of what ever website I happen to be on when the issue comes up.

I then receive a series of pop up windows, see attached (Images 1, 2 and 3), and have no idea how to resolve the problem. I feel that it is related to a browser add on as you mentioned earlier. However, I may be wrong.

Thanks for your help!!!

Sincerely,

Dominic

Hey Dominic !

Glad for your question since this kind of stuff tend to happend a lot.

Of course you could try and browse to the same location(s) using an other browser (try Firefox instead of IE-Internet Explorer), Try a PC that has IE6 instead of your IE7.

However eventually you would want to keep using IE7 so we have to fix it.

One of the options we have to try and find the cause for this annoying problem is:

Trying to disable suspicious add-ons that got added to your explorer.

This is how we do it:

  1. Open your IE7 window
  2. Select "Tools", then "Internet Options"
  3. Select the "Program" Tab.
  4. Click on the "Manage AddOns" botton
  5. You wil then see a listing with Add-ons and you can see for each item who is its "Publisher"
  6. You can then consider which add-ons you want to try and disable (maybe those that do NOT belong to Microsoft, or those that you do not know their Publisher, or those who do NOT have a publisher name at all)
  7. For each Add-on you can click the "Disable" botton and approve your changes by pressing the "OK".
  8. Note that on the Top of the listing there is a lable "Show" which allows you to select what type of add-ons you want to browse.
  9. Try and avoid disabling many add-ons at once, so you can more easily identify which specific add-ons cause the problem.
  10. You will have to close your IE7 sessions and restart them.
  11. As you change your IE7 settings this might trigger your Anti-Virus or Anti-Spyware program, so if it prompts for the same modifications you were doing to IE, that's OK.

Similar steps could be use to troubleshoot IE6 as well as Firefox, though the menu selections may be different.

Dominic,

I hope this helps !

Do let us know how it goes...

Yours,

Jack.
