Your best IT Friend Tips (JackMrk)
Blog Entry

Welcome to the IT Tips Blog - Powerful Tip #1 - Is the site you are visiting OK or what ?

Saturday, March 15th @ 10:26 AMpost viewed 180 times

As you know, the regular situation is that people work for their computers !
How is that ?

Well, people try to figure out why the computer is suddenly stuck.
So they check their Anti Virus (if they know how to).
Then they try to close some applications.
Power off, Pray a bit, Power on, Power off again.
Avoid running some applications, remove some applications,
Install new ones, call a friend, pray again.

Sounds Familiar ?

Well in companies where there is good IT (Computing Professional),
its usually much better...People get to work doing their job
instead of run around their PC...

So what's the deal ?

Well, its simple.

I am tired of helping each and each friend of mine with their PC !
Its true I become their best IT friend...and they are very nice
to me...but I decided to quit helping each person at a time !

I am going to help you all in one shot and then maybe
you'll leave us IT professionals alone, so we can play with
OUR PCs :-)

So what's in it for me ?

Firstly, you should know already that those Computer Tech geeks,
just love when you give them a problem to chew on...now you
get it why this guy stays at your PC for hours, solving
problems one after the other...most of them you did not
complain of...
We, IT Pros, love to help...we need that gratification...
Well, at least I am so...I need you to tell me I had helped you
so much...

Yes, at some point I will offer something to buy (my wife will
tell me in a definite way that I must bring some "$" home...)

But, you'll get much more for your money.

And anyway, enjoy the free ride -- and I promise to keep
free tips and tools coming at you, no matter what !
And I will do my best to do this few days a week !!

OK, enough of this.

=======================

All of us stroll among sites, and from time to time we stumble
across something that we simply can't resist !
Its so cheap ! Movies download without a subscription,
Software with 95% discount, 30 Kilo diet in 2 days, and so on.
Thing is in some cases its a trap...well for my examples
they are probably all a trap !

Before I tell you about a very nice FREE SECURITY TOOL
you should know that one of your best defense tools is your
sense.
If the thing does not make a sense, specially financial sense,
be aware. Take 2 minutes and think about it.
Search on it (I will tell you about review sites in another post).

Anyway, here is the tool -- it has a big database of
bad sites and can warn you.
Its not the only product, but its very nice and since its
part of a commercial product, its worthy.
Remember, nothing is 100% safe, but in most cases you do not
need even 90% defense.

The tools is called "McAfee Site Advisor".
You add it to your browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox);
Firefox: http://www.siteadvisor.com/download/ff.html
Internet Explorer: http://www.siteadvisor.com/download/ie.html

I will be releasing Podcast / Video that show how to set it
up and use it.

As soon as this program is installed, it will show a
green/yellow/red light-like sign.
In Internet Explorer its in the upper right corner of the browser.
In Firefox in the bottom right cornet of the browser.

Also, when you look at a list of URLs (such as in Google search
results page) it will show a small mark near each URL.

What Site advisor says is not always true, but it looks like
it covers many cases and keeps you few more inches away from
big troubles.
